Nadra introduces Smart Identity Card for expats

LAHORE – The National Database and Registration Authority has introduced new ID Card, the Smart National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistani at a ceremony in London, said spokesman of NADRA here on Monday. The Smart Card is a third Generation Chip-based identity document that is produced according to international standards and requirements. The card has over 36 physical security features and has latest encryption codes making it safest card in the world.Speaking on the occasion, Pakistani’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Wajid Shamsul Hassan said “The Smart card” is a revolutionary technology developed by NADRA and this will provide great service and convenience to citizens.” He thanked the Government for this timely and critical step as it will help with smooth provision of social services, increase financial inclusion and facilitate with remittances to Pakistan.NADRA plans to open its public facilitation centres in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Bradford and Glasgow and later will expanding into the rest of Europe. This was disclosed by the new Chairman of NADRA Tariq Malik, who was appointed by the Prime Minister only three days ago. These offices will operate as extended counsellor sections and approval for them has already been granted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. NADRA will launch Smart NICOP and Smart CNIC together on Independence Day this year.Smart NICOP will provide 2.5 million overseas Pakistanis in Europe with priority travel, banking facilities and increased security as well as the existing visa-free entry to Pakistan. NADRA plans to bring out a number of services on the Smart Card and these will be provided upon availability. The card is programmed with a match-on-card applet which first confirms the biometrics of the user and then grants access to it. The card is printed on multiple layers of polycarbonate material, each layer containing its own security features. This card is hence the securest in the world and protects the data of citizens at every level, spokesman of NADRA said.NADRA’s key concern has been to protect public information and its plans have been extensively tested and approved by the Government of Pakistan. NADRA staff will continue to approve and issue the cards after verification of documents and transfer data to Pakistan in real time via secure encryption. The cards will be printed at NADRA headquarters and will be shipped back to the UK. No one other than a select number of NADRA staff will be allowed access to the data of citizens.“NADRA is catalyst in transforming e-Govt agenda in Pakistan. It houses the world largest multi-biometric citizens database and has very effectively used it to bring transparency in government’s citizen centric initiatives like preparation of electoral rolls, Benazir Income Support Programme, cash disbursement programme for internally displaced people, electronic seafarer cards programme, e-arms licence initiative, motorway toll collection using e-toll application, ID card verification through SMS, Integrated Border Management Solutions and Biometric Access Control Systems. These programmes have increased public convenience, improved service delivery, and ensured transparency. NADRA has been designated as Asian leader for providing identity-based multi-biometric technology solutions” said Tariq Malik, Chairman NADRA.

Nadra to establish 64 more DAUs to facilitate general public

Islamabad

The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) is working on a proposal for establishing 64 more Data Acquisition Units (DAUs) to enhance its outreach to general public.

At present 876 Data Acquisition Units are providing registration services to general public countrywide as more DAUs would definitely help meet Authority’s objectives to facilitate the people. According to Nadra here on Wednesday, there are 441 Registration Centres (NRCs), 11

Female Registration Centres (NRCs), 243 Mobile Registration Vans (MRVs), 7 Female Mobile Registration Vans, 100 Semi-Mobile Registration Units (SMRUs), 74 Manpack and Motorcycle Registration Units.

Double shift has also been started at 42 NRCs to further facilitate the applicants.

It merits mentioned here that the Authority established 535 Data Acquisition Units up to 2008 and to enhance the registration throughout the country, it further increased 341 DAUs particularly female centres, keeping in view requirements of the area.

Moreover, the authority is taking all possible measures to speed up process for issuance of Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) and to provide maximum ease/convenience to general public. In this regard, an average 45,000 to 50,000 applicants visit Nadra static and mobile platforms every day across the country and abroad for processing of their registration documents.

Pak team to expedite ID card processing

A team of experts from Pakistan’s National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) will visit the UAE from June 13 to 16 to resolve issues in obtaining the National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP).

The team will spend one day each in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UAE Jamil Ahmed Khan on Thursday urged Pakistanis facing problems in obtaining the NICOP to visit the embassy and consulate between June 13 and 16 to benefit from the experts’ visit.

Jamil held a meeting with the NADRA authorities in Islamabad and finalised the visit to Abu Dhabi and Dubai to troubleshoot problems faced by Pakistanis in obtaining NICOP.

Jamil said that the express mandate of the team is to recommend solutions to the problems faced by the members of Pakistani community in obtaining the NICOP because of the non-availability of documents necessary for processing requests. He added that the processing time for NICOP had improved in the last few months because of the efforts put in by the Embassy.

“We have further trained our staff to improve the quality of services and more qualitative measures are being put in place for a better service delivery,” the envoy said.

Earlier in May, Pakistan’s envoy had held exclusive meetings with members of the Pakistani community, including ethnic Baloch representatives, appraising them of the initiatives to add value to counselor services.

NADRA suspends 57 member of Welfare Association

Karachi—The administration of NADRA has suspended almost 57 office bearers of Employees Welfare Association for steering the campaign for confirmation of some 13000 contractual staffers. Whereas the sacked employees have filed an application in National Industrial Relation Commission (NIRC) for seeking permission to constitute Union in NADRA.

The Provincial President Sindh of the Welfare Association Zia Khan, while talking to the media, expressed hope that NIRC would grant them permission to form trade union in NADRA on next hearing , which would be held on 15 June. He said that that the pledges made by President Asif Ali Zardari , Federal Minister Syed Khurshid Shah and senior leader of PPP Faryal Talpur to regularise the contract employees of NADRA could not be fulfilled .

He said that the NADRA management has terminated 61 active leaders of Welfare Association, out of which four officers were reinstated after submitting their written apology.—Online

Balochistan Assembly for regularisation of NADRA employees

QUETTA: The Balochistan Assembly on Tuesday unanimously adopted a resolution, demanding the provincial government approach the federal government for regularising the services of National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) employees and reinstatement of the sacked employees.

The resolution was tabled by Provincial Balochistan for Revenue Zamarkh Khan Achakzai and Speaker Aslam Bhootani presided over the session on Tuesday.

The minister stated that Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and Interior Minister Rehman Malik had promised that the services of NADRA employees would be regularised, however, the promise was yet to be fulfilled. Therefore, the provincial government should approach the federal government and regularise the services of NADRA employees and reinstate the employees those who had been sacked. Besides, he said cases registered against NADRA employees be withdrawn.

Three cops wounded in clash with protesters

Islamabad: Three policemen including station house officer (SHO) of Secretariat Police Station sustained injuries in a clash with angry protesters of Nadra, when the agitators stormed into the Red Zone, breaking police barriers on Tuesday evening.

 

According to police spokesman, Nadra employees, coming from all over the country, gathered at D-Chowk to register their protest against the alleged biased attitude of Nadra chairman. They have been a staging sit-in for the last four days, but Nadra administration refused to listen to their demands. The police resorted to baton-charge and hurled teargas shells to disperse participants of the rally, but the protesters retaliated and started pelting stones at the police.

 

During the clash, SHO (Secretariat) Hakam Khan and two other cops sustained head injuries and were shifted to the Polyclinic.The police, later, arrested 26 protesters and registered FIR against them.

NADRA contractual employees continue protests

ISLAMABAD: The sit-in protest by scores of contractual employees of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) entered into its second day at the capital’s D-Chowk area on Monday.

So far, no significant government representative has visited the area to hold a dialogue with the protesters.

The employees under the banner of All-Pakistan NADRA Employees (APNE) vowed to continue their sit-in until their demands for regularisation and reinstatement of their sacked colleagues were met.

Carrying flags and banners inscribed with their demands, the employees hailing from Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Punjab raised slogans against NADRA’s chairman throughout the day.

Speaking on the occasion, APNE office-bearers Ghulam Murtaza, Rao Nadeem, Asif Bashir, Fiazullah Karkar and Faiz Ahmad Anjum said the sit-in would continue until their demands are met.

They said workers of the APNE will also observe a countrywide shutter-down protest to press the government for their regularisation. They have vowed not to return to work until their demands were met.

Around 15,000 NADRA employees working on contract basis across the country for the last 12 years are now running from pillar to post for their regularisation. In this regard, they also observed a countrywide strike from February 20 to 26.

The strike ended after the assurances given to them by President Asif Ali Zardari’s sister MNA Faryal Talpur.

Meanwhile, NADRA has fired 61 employees from various divisions because of their alleged involvement in making unions and creating problems for the organisation.

To pacify their demands, the NADRA chairman issued a notification, which extended the contracts of all employees, until their retirement.

But, the APNE had rejected the notification saying they would not be entitled to any pension if they retired as contractual employees even after working for the authority until their retirement age.

Nadra staff protest delay in regularisation

GUJRANWALA, Feb 21: Employees of National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) working on a contract basis went on strike on Tuesday to protest alleged delay in regularisation of their services. Hundreds of customers faced a great deal of inconvenience owing to the strike.

Most Nadra employees are working on a contract basis for the last many years and the federal government has not regularised them.

On Tuesday, all employees of Nadra’s two city offices and Wazirabad, Kamoki, Naushera Virkan, Ghakkhar and Qila Deedar Singh offices went on strike.

Employees’ union vice-chairman Nabeel Ahmad said that the prime minister and the interior minister had promised to regularise their services but it had not happened despite lapse of considerable time.

OKARA: All the staff of Nadra offices in Okara, Renala Khurd and Depalpur went on strike on Tuesday.

They demanded that their jobs be regularised like the employees of other departments.

SHEIKHUPURA: Over 200 Nadra employees in Sheikhupura and Nankana districts observed complete strike.

They closed their offices in Sheikhupura Nankana, Ferozewala, Muridke, Sangla Hill and Manawala, inconveniencing customers a lot.

The district employees’ union president Sohail Ahmad said that they had been working on a contract basis since 2002 and deserved to be regularised.

When they went on strike two years ago, he said, the prime minister and the interior minister had promised to regularise them but it had not happened so far. He said that they would take to the street if their demands were not met within three days.

TOBA TEK SINGH: Nadra employees observed complete strike in Toba, Gojra and Kamalia to press the federal government for acceptance of their demands on Tuesday.

They demanded that all contract employees be regularised and a ban be imposed on direct appointments in the authority.

KASUR: Nadra employees observed strike in Kasur, Pattoki, Chunian, Kot Radha Kishan and Kanganpur and took out rallies in response to a call given by All Pakistan Nadra Employees Association on Tuesday.

They demanded that they be regularised at the earliest. They threatened to continue their strike till the acceptance of their demands.

SIALKOT: Nadra employees kept their offices closed in Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial, Pasrur, Chawinda and Badiana to protest delays in regularisation of their services.

They wore black armbands and held demonstrations in front of their locked offices. Owing to closure of offices, customers suffered great difficulties throughout the day.

NADRA contract employees demand job regularisation

KARACHI: A large number of contract employees of National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) staged a protest demonstration in front of the Karachi Press Club on Wednesday against stubbornness of NADRA management and government in taking up their demands that have been put in cold storage for several years. The protestors chanted slogans against the unlawful behavior of their management, demanding from management and government to regularise their jobs. The representatives of the protestors said that NADRA employees had been serving for over ten years under the unjust law of contract. They said, according to a notification issued by Chairman NADRA on October 17, 2011, all employees working on contract basis were granted regularisation but later the chairman declared it as fake document which was ridiculous, adding that they strongly condemn that deceiving act. staff report of daily times
