Nadra staff protest delay in regularisation

GUJRANWALA, Feb 21: Employees of National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) working on a contract basis went on strike on Tuesday to protest alleged delay in regularisation of their services. Hundreds of customers faced a great deal of inconvenience owing to the strike.

Most Nadra employees are working on a contract basis for the last many years and the federal government has not regularised them.

On Tuesday, all employees of Nadra’s two city offices and Wazirabad, Kamoki, Naushera Virkan, Ghakkhar and Qila Deedar Singh offices went on strike.

Employees’ union vice-chairman Nabeel Ahmad said that the prime minister and the interior minister had promised to regularise their services but it had not happened despite lapse of considerable time.

OKARA: All the staff of Nadra offices in Okara, Renala Khurd and Depalpur went on strike on Tuesday.

They demanded that their jobs be regularised like the employees of other departments.

SHEIKHUPURA: Over 200 Nadra employees in Sheikhupura and Nankana districts observed complete strike.

They closed their offices in Sheikhupura Nankana, Ferozewala, Muridke, Sangla Hill and Manawala, inconveniencing customers a lot.

The district employees’ union president Sohail Ahmad said that they had been working on a contract basis since 2002 and deserved to be regularised.

When they went on strike two years ago, he said, the prime minister and the interior minister had promised to regularise them but it had not happened so far. He said that they would take to the street if their demands were not met within three days.

TOBA TEK SINGH: Nadra employees observed complete strike in Toba, Gojra and Kamalia to press the federal government for acceptance of their demands on Tuesday.

They demanded that all contract employees be regularised and a ban be imposed on direct appointments in the authority.

KASUR: Nadra employees observed strike in Kasur, Pattoki, Chunian, Kot Radha Kishan and Kanganpur and took out rallies in response to a call given by All Pakistan Nadra Employees Association on Tuesday.

They demanded that they be regularised at the earliest. They threatened to continue their strike till the acceptance of their demands.

SIALKOT: Nadra employees kept their offices closed in Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial, Pasrur, Chawinda and Badiana to protest delays in regularisation of their services.

They wore black armbands and held demonstrations in front of their locked offices. Owing to closure of offices, customers suffered great difficulties throughout the day.
